Hello, my name is Naasawva Mahkewa-Lewis, and I am the adopted son of Melissa
Mahkewa. Growing up, I moved between families often, which meant I rarely had a sense
of permanence.
During my earlier years, academics were not my main priority. COVID-19 and the
chaos it caused made things even more difficult. That didn’t change until my 8th grade year.
I started pushing myself to improve my grades, motivated by competition and pride. Since
then, I’ve taken great pride in my academic performance and the integrity behind it.
Fast adaptation, intuition, and innovation became important, especially when
switching schools. When I began as a sophomore at Parker High School, I didn’t fit in very
well. With time and adjustment, things improved, and becoming involved in clubs and
activities helped me feel more connected to the PHS community. Today, I am a member of
the PHS Band, Math Club, Interact Club, Esports team, and the National Honor Society.
I am especially passionate about music, animation, and mathematics. I take pride
in performing with the PHS Band and the Lake Havasu Symphonic Winds. Mathematics
fascinates me because it explains patterns found everywhere. I love animation -
particularly motion tweening – because it allows me to bring my ideas to life.
After high school, I plan to attend Arizona State University to pursue a degree in
cybersecurity while continuing to grow my hobbies into something more. Overall, my time
at Parker High School was a meaningful and enjoyable experience. Engaging with the
community helps foster a sense of connection and builds lasting memories. I am honored
to be the February Student of the Month and I hope to bring more to myself and the
community
